Originated in Evergreen, Colorado, Hemp Way Foods is the vision of Carla Boyd, who established her company in 2014 to serve those requiring enhanced plant-based nutrition. As the saying goes, “necessity being the mother of invention,” it was Carla’s own experiences with food intolerances after recovery from a terrible automobile accident, that caused her to reimagine her nutritional intake. Directed by her doctors, she began her quest to identify alternatives to fuel her body, absorb protein, and achieve optimum health. This led her to hemp, not only as a source of protein, but also as a source of vital nutrients which helped reduce her recovery time significantly. After several years developing and reformulating her recipes, she debuted her Hemp Burger and Hemp Burger Crumble products to local grocery stores, nutritional outlets, and health food stores to resounding success. By the end of her second year in business, she was widely-acclaimed in the health food industry being featured in publications such as the Denver Post & The Hemp Connoisseur Magazine, as well as having earned accolades for taste, winning taste test challenges such as “Best Colorado Hemp Food” in 2016, 2018, and 2019. Carla Boyd is a graduate of the University of North Texas, an entrepreneur, educator, & advocate within the Cannabis/Hemp Industries. Her involvement began in early 2009, serving on the board of the Mile-High Denver NORML chapter until 2012. During this time, she also consulted with several dispensaries with a marketing/sales focus & events coordinator for Hemp Cleans, a statewide Colorado educational campaign.
Carla struggled personally with various food intolerances; she discovered that hemp(food) assisted her on the road to sustainable health. This inspired the creation of Hemp Way Foods in 2014 and fuels the company’s visionary food products. Hemp Way is a hemp-based food production company where she continues as President & Chief Operations Manager. Hemp Way Foods education is shared alongside brand awareness and is a central focus of the business’s outreach. In 2015, her company received “Best Hemp Product/Facilitated by “The Cannabis Business Awards. She again won in 2016 for “Best Colorado Hemp Food” by the Industrial Hemp Awards. She just became back-to-back winners at the 2018 and 2019 Grow Hemp Colorado Indo Expo Events as the “Best Hemp Food Company”.
Her recent highlights include an appointment to the Leadership Counsel for the National Small Business Association. Hemp Way Foods has been featured in various regional publications, most notably the Denver Post & the Hemp Connoisseur Magazine; making the Hemp Connoisseur Spring 2018 “100 People You Should Know”. Carla was also a featured contributor to the “VegFest Cookbook” published in 2017. The year begins with local and national speaking opportunities for sharing her message of hemp nutrition & sustainable food development; starting with the Industrial Hemp Summit in VA and the development of her online cooking show “Cooking with the Hemp Food Lady”.
